As the countdown continues towards the début of ESL R1 at the Intel Extreme Masters next weekend in Katowice, more teams and drivers are being revealed with Brazil being well represented at FURIA, who have decided to go with thw BMW M4 GT3 as their car choice.
Leading the team as one of the competitors and the Team Captain is Jeff Giassi, who has a lot of sim racing and real-world racing experience, along with being an officially-certified Porsche instructor. He’s also a Porsche Carrera Cup Brazil Endurance champion, coupling that with winning three titles in Porsche Esports Carrera Cup Brazil, giving him a welcome blend of both sides of racing.
The rest of the team also bring a welcome blend of a mixture of success in one or both of what Giassi has already achieved, as he is joined by Caique Oliveira, Felipe Baptista and Victor Veloso.
Baptista has also raced in real-life, competing against the likes of Tony Kanaan and Rubens Barrichello in Stock Car Brazil for KTF Sports, winning the Rookie title in 2020, before securing the overall crown the following year.
Oliveria raced in the 2023 Le Mans 24H Virtual earlier this month, competing in the GTE class for the #95 Prodrive FYRA Esport entry alongside Lasse Sørensen, Andreas Jochimsen and Lasse Bak, with Veloso also having raced with them all in the premier Esports competitons in Brazil.
It will also be interesting to see how they adapt to the RENNSPORT platform, and whether their choice to move to the Munich brand for their choice of car instead of the one they all know, but could this bring a surprise to what happens over the course of the Spring Season.
