The addition of new cars to racing platforms is always ongoing, but there is a real classic single-seater that has been teased by iRacing, that looks to be joining the likes of the W13 from Mercedes F1, the Indycar IR18, the iR-04, as the stalwart that is Formula Ford has whetted the appetites of the sim racing community.
The racing genesis of this category, which started from small steps in the early 1960s, has seen some of the very best talents go through its ranks, such as Emerson Fittipaldi, Jenson Button, Mark Webber and James Courtney.
There are also stand-alone events such as the Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch and the Walter Hayes Trophy at Silverstone that attract new rising stars to the grids from across the globe.
It is the only class apart from Formula 1 where multiple different chassis manufacturers were allowed to conform to the same regulations, such as Van Diemen and Mygale.
With no aero to actually speak of, it will all come down to precision at the corners, with top speeds being pretty impressive. In other words, “slow in, fast out.”
We’re looking forward to seeing how this car ends up on iRacing and how it drives – how about you?
