After 22 years without an official game in the genre, F1 Manager 2022 released this summer to hand Formula 1 fans control of an entire team again. While generally well-received, the game also showed some issues. Now, developer Frontier announced that the coming update would already be the final major one – just two months after the game’s release.
The news was shared in the official subreddit of F1 Manager 2022, stating that work on an update addressing player-reported topics was underway following the real-life United States Grand Prix. However, the key part of the announcement was that “this next update for F1 Manager 2022 will be the last significant update that addresses player-reported feedback, or suggested changes and additions. Any potential updates following this would be minor patches that do not noticeably affect gameplay.” Effectively, this means the end of Frontier’s support for the game.
A reason for this decision has also been given: “To ensure upcoming F1 Manager projects realize their potential and meet the expectations of both our team and our community, the development team’s focus must move fully onto projects beyond F1 Manager 2022.” The series is set to see yearly releases for a total of four games.
Reactions to the surprising announcement are not exactly positive. The Reddit thread sees numerous players making their discontent known, with many of them vowing not to return to the series as a result of the short-term support of F1 Manager 2022.
